So proud of my hubby @musicapologist ! Black Music Matters 3.0 was a great success! Thank you for sharing your dream with everyone; your dream that has enabled so many others to live into their dreams! So beautiful!

A little difficult to read, but we made Intention bracelets today at school so I used my word for 2020: new. I’m still not certain of what it means for me this year, but it’s what came up when I went through the process of listening for it. I added it to my Breathe intention bracelet from #breatheforchange and I love them together on the same strand.
Here are the lyrics that are part of what prompted this year’s word, from Brooke Fraser’s Shadowfeet:
Walking, stumbling on these shadowfeet
toward home, a land that I've never seen
I am changing: less and less asleep
made of different stuff than when I began
and I have sensed it all along, fast approaching is the day
When the world has fallen out from under me I'll be found in you, still standing
when the sky rolls up and mountains fall on their knees; when time and space are through I'll be found in you
There’s distraction buzzing in my head
saying in the shadows it's easier to stay
but I've heard rumors of true reality
whispers of a well-lit way
When the world has fallen out from under me I'll be found in you, still standing
when the sky rolls up and mountains fall on their knees; when time and space are through I'll be found in you
You make all things new
When the world has fallen out from under me I'll be found in you, still standing
Every fear and accusation under my feet
when time and space are through
I'll be found in you

Whole30 Round 2 starts today. Ready to get myself back off sugar! .

In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red,
When the summer's ceased its gleaming
When the corn is past its prime,
When adventure's lost its meaning -
I'll be homeward bound in time
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow
If you find it's me you're missing
If you're hoping I'll return,
To your thoughts I'll soon be listening,
And in the road I'll stop and turn
Then the wind will set me racing
As my journey nears its end
And the path I'll be retracing
When I'm homeward bound again
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow
This text and music by Marta Keen has been sung by every voice student I’ve ever taught for the last ten years. I’ve taught over a hundred students in that time. Today, I taught my last lesson for now. Thank you to my current and former students for trusting me with your hearts and voices. Thank you to the area choral directors for trusting me with your students. Thank you to my colleagues for your brainstorming support. Thank you to @musicapologist for always, always supporting this endeavor and believing in me. It was through tears that I played this song one last time after my last lesson had left. “Set me free to find my calling and I’ll return to you somehow.” I very well might return to this work someday. I don’t know where this new pathway is taking me, but I do know that sitting behind a piano playing those open fifths will always be a home to which I can return. .
